I am thrilled to share some news that will propel your intercultural programming into another stratosphere! Aman Ali and Bassam Tariq (aka “The 30 mosques.com guys”) are available for speaking engagements (Learn how below)!
I had the pleasure of interviewing these 2 delightful guys (see below) earlier this year. They are delightful, engaging, informative and humorous young men who were curious to learn more about Muslims in the US, so they hit the road, visited 30 mosques in 30 days in 30 U.S. states and blogged about it. They’ve been interviewed by NPR, Al Jazeera and most recently, Aman was part of an exciting panel discussion on ABC with Christiane Amanpour.
The presentation that they can deliver is described as “30 Mosques, 30 Days – Tales from a Ramadan Road Trip” : To observe the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, New Yorkers Aman Ali and Bassam Tariq came up with an insane idea to hang out with Muslims in a different state each day during the month. The two hopped into a car and drove over 13,000 miles and blogged about it daily on their site, 30mosques.com. Along the way, they prayed inside the infamous “Ground Zero mosque” in New York City, got pulled over by a cop in Mississippi, and visited the first mosque ever built in the U.S. in Ross, North Dakota – a town with only 48 people. And that’s just three days of the trip. Their adventure garnered media attention from CNN, NPR, TIME, Boing Boing and the Associated Press. The two will not only reflect on the crazy trip, but share stories and insight about some of the random shenanigans they got into along the way.
Aman and Bassam will provide an outstanding and informative presentation that describes their experience traveling around the US, what they learned about their OWN faith, how they handled their own stereotypes of “others” in the US (and others’ stereotypes of them), and much more. Aman is a journalist and stand up comedian – he is vibrant, funny and entertaining. Bassam, a film maker, balances Aman’s style beautifully – he is analytic, direct, and personable in a completely different way.
If you are interested in having Aman and Bassam speak at your campus, please contact me. (They have given me permission to assist with their speaking series, yet it will not increase the cost to your institution by having Melibee Global facilitate the booking. In fact, it will simply make the process a bit easier for you.)
Aman and Bassam’s presentation will be an excellent addition to your International Education Week schedule, but they are also completely appropriate presenters for high schools, World Religion programs, Journalism schools, community centers, etc….so feel free to share this information with others as you see fit.
