As a former college football player, Ibrahim has a deep passion for US sports. His presentation is a commentary on US sports culture blended with history and current events on the subject. It is a superb presentation for athletes as well as those who are new to the US and in need of a deeper understanding of our customs and traditions, courage, and politics around sports and play. Ibrahim played football in college and was a regular contributor on the subject of sports for The Take Away.

Ibrahim Abdul-Matin is the author of Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet. Raised between Brooklyn and rural Upstate NY, Ibrahim appreciated environment and sustainability at an early age. His father, a devout Muslim, taught 5-year-old Ibrahim that the “Earth is a mosque,” that every inch of the planet is sacred and to be protected. Ibrahim has advised two New York City mayors on sustainability policy, among other issues, and has also worked with Fortune 500 companies as a consultant on sustainability and innovation. He has spoken and written for a variety of outlets on diverse topics including Islam and sustainability, organizing and activism, and land use process. A former on-air sports contributor to WNYC’s The Takeaway, Abdul-Matin has appeared on CNN, Fox News, and Al Jazeera, among others. And in 2015 he was named one of the 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in New York City Politics by City & State Magazine. Ibrahim holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island where he was also a linebacker on the football team and NCAA scholar-athlete. His MA in Public Administration is from Baruch College in NYC with a focus on urban environmental policy.
